Shark Cage Diving and Viewing Tours

Shark Alley is the name of the famous shark diving spot in Gans Bay, about 2 hours drive from Cape Town. Here you can get close and personal with one of the giants of the sea - The Great White Shark. No diving experience is needed for shark cage diving tours and if you wish to simply view from the boat deck instead of diving, you can! Shark diving tours are weather dependent and daily pickup times from Cape Town can vary. The Cape Town Experience offers private transfer options for guests who wish to include other stops of interests to or from the shark diving activity. Guests can make use of their own transport, a group transfer or private transfer.

Book your shark diving tours

Shark Diving Tours have various starting times due to wind and tidal situations. This information is usually shared with booked guests via phone, email or message at their place of accommodation a day before the time. Tours and pickups can start as early as 5am. It is best not to book any other arrangements for the entire day as tour and traveling times can change very quickly. Shark Diving is weather dependent and tours can last around 3 to 4 hours, excluding the driving.

The transfers are conducted by the shark company themselves and can take up to 14 guests per mini-bus. The Cape Town Experience provides private transfers for those who wish to make additional stops along the way, such as a stop in Hermanus during whale season, wine tasting, penguins, lunch at an interesting spot etc.

At the Shark Diving office we meet in the morning for a short introduction, light breakfast and safety briefing before heading to the boat. Divers will be provided with wetsuits and basic diving gear like goggles and snorkels. No scuba gear or experience is needed. Those who prefer not to dive can simply enjoy the viewing from the deck. Remember to bring swimwear, warm clothes and a hat or sunscreen.

Please see below what we can include on our private tours and transfers...

Personalised Lunch and Free time
Instead of simply heading back to Cape Town after the shark cage diving, you can take it a bit easier with a private transfer and spend some time in the very popular town of Hermanus. From July to November the town becomes alive with the arrival of hundreds of Southern Right Whales. Markets, optional whale boat tours, restaurants and leisurely beach strolls can also be included in this town. Wine tasting can be done in the area if you wish to warm up the blood again from the cold Atlantic water. We have previously included a visit to The most Southern tip of Africa in Cape Agulhas for a small extra fee. For guests with limited time who wish to see as much as possible, feel free to enquire about this option.

Penguins at Betty's Bay
Another colony of African penguins can be found along the coastline between Cape Town and Hermanus in a town called Betty's Bay. These are the same penguins found along Cape Point, and a good option if you won't be making a tour of the Cape Town Peninsula. Visiting the penguins in Betty's Bay is time dependent and will usually happen after the shark diving tours. For guests who would like to prioritise a visit to the penguins, we suggest please letting us know when making an enquiry.

Clarence Drive Coastal Route
Instead of heading back the same way to Cape Town over the Helderberg mountains, our private transfers take the coastal route back to Cape Town via the beautiful stretch of coastal road - Clarence Drive. This road is a scenic experience with endless horizons whichever way you look. It is on this road where the penguins of Betty's Bay can be found along with interesting towns, sights and sounds such as Hangklip, Pringle Bay, Gordon's Bay and during whale season Clarence Drive is also know as a popular whale watching route.
