Garden Route Tours, The Town of Sedgefield

Along the Garden Route of South Africa you will find the little town of Sedgefield situated against the Indian Ocean. It is a little piece of paradise nestled in the dunes guarding miles and miles of open, white, sandy beaches. It is very central in terms of overnight options during Garden Route tours and most of The Garden Route attractions can be reached from this town within easy driving distances.

Sedgefield offers a variety of accommodation options for any type of traveler. Backpackers, Self-Catering units and luxury guesthouses are plenty. It is due to this reason that Sedgefield is almost a definite sleepover stop during many Garden Route tours from various tour operators and agents.

Sedgefield has been voted the first slowtown of South Africa and the tortoise monuments found scattered around the town reminds you of this on a regular basis. A 'Slow-Town' is a community that lives to a certain goal and promise, helping each other doing it while taking the environment and nature into strict consideration. Being right in the middle of the Garden Route means the town is lush, green environment with beaches and sandy whilte beaches complimenting the forests.

Sedgefield is surrounded by a number of popular towns. Knysna, which is roughly 20 kilometers further is known as the heart of The Garden Route. Wilderness is about 20 kilometres before Sedgefield and is known as the town of Romance. Wilderness is a popular photostop on many Garden Route tours as it overlooks dolphin point and the old bridge train track from the Outeniqua Chho Tjoe train that used to run here.

Plenty of activities and adventure options are available in Sedgefield. If you are lucky enough to be here on a Saturday morning, then start your day with a visit to the famous Farmer's Market, selling different foods, crafts, arts, fruits and more. Some Garden Route tours include a visit to the market in their set itineraries. Surfing, Sandboarding and hiking options are also very popular in this area.

If you would like to spend extra time in Sedgefield, or perhaps extend your stay in this town during our Garden Route tours, have a look at our private tours and let us know.
