Route Tours and is quite a unique attraction in South Africa and
the world. Be it for the bird-lover, families or children, there
will always be something to see, chuckle about or learn. This
Birds of Eden sanctuary has become a well-known Garden Route stopover
and in terms of bird spotters, a must-do!
Crags is a small village found just before you enter Plettenberg
Bay from Cape Town's direction in the Western Cape province of
South Africa. This area is included in many Garden Route Tours
and an optional stop on all our private Garden Route tours. It
is here where a large number of wildlife activities can be found,
including monkeys, elephants, cats species and of course, Birds
of Eden. The popularity of animal encounters within this area
has informally caused The Crags to be named 'Animal Alley'.
of Eden is the largest free-flight bird cage in South Africa and
the world. You truly forget that you are walking around in a cage
as the size of it is very overwhelming and covered by the forest
you are walking in. There are no guided tours at Birds of Eden
and you walk around the park in your own time and pace. Trying
to explain to guests on our Garden Route tours the beauty and
visual entertainment is very difficult, but once they have had
a walkthrough, it's difficult to get them out! Even people who
are convinced they are not interested in birds leave the sanctuary
feeling very satisfied and pleased for visiting Birds of Eden.

The park provides a very handy bird guide book for sale to help
you in identifying each and every bird you spot. The birds and
animals found in the sanctuary are not specifically all from South
Africa or The Garden Route area, so you are almost guaranteed
to see something for the first time, and possibly the last time
in your life!
is difficult to set a specific time to spend in the park as different
people have different interests. Some guests feel that 1 hour
is enough, where others are barely half way after 2 hours. On
Group Garden Route tours you will usually find that 1 hour has
been set aside for this activity, but on our Private Garden Route
tours you can basically decide on the amount of time you would
like to spend in Birds of Eden.
sanctuary have an in-house restaurant next to a beautiful lake
where light meals and drinks can be enjoyed. Depending on how
the timing of our Garden Route tours work, we can use Birds of
Eden as a lunch stop. Toilets and resting benches are also readily
available throughout the park, along with a beautiful curio shop
where you can buy some Birds of Eden, South Africa and Garden
the bird lovers, we insist on visiting Birds of Eden. Even those
not so much into discovering our feathered friends we can almost
guarantee the environment and colours will create a lasting memory.
