Albertinia, South Africa

Albertinia is found along The Garden Route of South Africa between the Indian Ocean and the Langeberg mountains along the N2 as you head towards the Garden Route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, which forms the northern section of the Garden Route. It is a tranquil country area in South Africa and has kept much of the atmosphere of a typical late 18th century trade settlement.

Albertinie is also home to Garden Route Game Lodge with spectacular Big 5 Safaris and wildlife viewing. Even though it's not always a stopover in our Garden Route Tours, it is definitely a reccommended stop for quality Big 5 Safaris.

The areas around Albertinia is an eco-system with picturesque views running from the coast all along Gouritz River over the dunes to the South Langeberg Mountains found in the North. This area provides some of the best examples of fynbos that grows only on the South Africa coast. Our Garden Route tours will give you an in depth look into this vegetation and the kaleidoscope of colours during the year.

Popular for its overload of aloe growing in the area, Albertinia is the leader of aloe juice in South Africa. Famous in the health, beauty and skin care world, two factories in Albertinia remove the juice from the aloe plant and sell their products in the factory shops which are usually used as a stopping point on Garden Route tours. Popular daily tours through the aloe shops give you the chance to purchase some of the wide range of beauty and healthcare products available.

The harvesting of reeds is another huge source of jobs and income in Albertinia. Found specifically in the region between Gouritz and the Breede River, the special grass like reeds has been a popular source to thatch Cape Dutch buildings since the start of South Africa history. This reed is totally solid, not like the regular thatching grass which is hollow inside. Albertinia is also where the first bungy jump of South Africa was formed. We try to make a stop here on most of our Garden Route Tours in South Africa.

Reins Nature Reserve is located on a scenic stretch of coastline between Stilbaai and Mosselbaai. Hiking tours, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, bird watching and whale tours can be included in any of our Garden Route Tours stopping in Albertinia.

Albertinia is home to one of only few remaining sand golf-courses in South Africa along The Garden Route, where you can enjoy a round of golf on this scenic 9 hole golf-course.
